Headaches

The one last night put me to sleep before I wanted to so missed a meeting this morning and the one now isn't letting me sleep.  So, until I do I guess it a video day about lighting.

New look to the site

If you had ever been to my home you know I like to move things around so it may come as know surprise to the people that know me that I change the site up.

Saul Leiter

I am watching this video "Saul Leiter in Conversation with Vince Aletti" I have seen videos of him before and love his photography but this video make me really admire the man.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLUwFf4iv9E

I love how artist respected the work of others and that some of them became good friends.

The Greatest Photographers

I recently watched a video titled "The Greatest Photographers" and of course it had lots of my favorite photographers so why did they have pictures they were clearly not taken by them and why did I even notice.  I think I have completely left the real world and is now living in my own surreal world.  Which is nice...lol  I still plug in to the real world thru my interface to recharge this weekend I have a photo shoot that I am looking forward and I don't always look forward to them now.  So, I'm ready to go my batteries are charged, location picked, beautiful model with a theme and a concept as well.  I can hear Michael Buffer now "Let's get ready to rummmmbleeeeeeeeee".

Big Fan

I don't know if I said it yet but I am a big fan of a lot of photographers and painters and the pattern seems to be my favorite photographers have a painters background.  So, that lead me into looking at more paintings and now two of my favorite painters are Vermeer and Caravaggio.  So, when you see a Cartier-Bresson or an Ho Fan photo I can't help but to be amazed that the captured that image on camera with out posing people.  I guess I should have started this saying I am a fan of the classic composition.  I just can't seem to see it in my own work.  The geometry of the scene is always missing but I can see it every where else.  I know it will come and I will be waiting.  Also before I stop chatting with myself I separated the land\cityscapes into days and nights.

Happy Birthday, Cerene

Today is one of my best friends in life birthday.  She past on in 2002, not on this day but that is not how I wish to remember her.  Today, I celebrate her life and I remember the good times.  I love you my dear friend from my HEART to HEAVEN and beyond reason.

Shooting in a gymnasium 09/02/15

Was ask shoot a volleyball game last night with my not so sports camera and I didn't say no.  My first challenge was my camera has always been setup to do portraits and landscapes.  I have back button focus which cause me to have a two step process with 2 separate buttons (focus first with the back button then shutter release) which is a much slower way of shooting in the beginning.  However, if you are shooting subject that are not moving it can be quicker.  Focus once and then shoot away.  So, I placed my flash on the camera, dialed the flash down to 1/16 power because I didn't really want to have a lot of flash in the shoot and ISO, set to 3200.  First shoot before the games started was with flash way to much so I just pointed it up but left it on the camera in case I needed for something.  During the next to last game a school official told me that I couldn't use my flash (5 games later) so as I was taking it off she said with a straight face.  "It could blind someone"....lol  I looked at her and the the flash I said it's pointing up.

Cape Disappointment State Park in Washington State

Today, I picked a place on the Washington coast a place I had never heard from.  I looked at the weather and saw that it was going to be a light rain.  I was hoping that the wind would be blowing just hard enough and that I would have some good wave striking the shore.  I tuned into the weather report for the coast and there were severe weather alerts and now I am excited.  I started wishing for lighting and light rain on shore but heavy at sea.  However, what I got was a sea that was priceless it was as if it was angry and wanted to take it out on the shoreline.  I got my strong wind but no lighting and I got rain on shore that was heavier than I wanted.  Just when I got out the car I saw the umbrella that was still by the front door in my mind.  Dayum it I forgot it.  So, rain drops are on my lens but I still got some pictures that I like.  I have to go back one day.

8-26-15

I believe I have taking pictures from every place in the city that is legal to stop as of now.  So, I guess it's time to start expanding my search and maybe taking them a little earlier in the day.  To keep me in the house tonight and not be out planning a shoot in the morning I will just watch this John Wayne movie and stay off google maps.  Plus that fact that I am a little sleepy should keep me honest.

Photographer Jay Maisel

This is my rant about the post office glad you exist but not to happy with you right now.  I ordered Jay's New Book – Light, Gesture & Color about 3 weeks ago now.  Since it didn't show up I went to the book store which had a little to do with why I am upset with the post office.  The person placing the order for me misspelled the city instead of spelling it Hillsboro they spelled it Hillsbor just dropping the "O".  Now mind you everything else is correct.  Where is my book?  On the way back to the warehouse because the post office couldn't figure out what city to delivery it to.  So, because of the policy of the warehouse they will issue me check back for my purchase instead of resending the book.  Which means I would need to go back to the store to reorder it.  Which will take about 2 weeks to get.  The kicker is that it will also take 2 weeks to get the check back.  So, now I am up to 6 weeks if I reorder.  To keep my mind off it I got 2 other books one from another great photographer Steve McCurry "The Iconic Photographs" and the other is "Vanity Fair 100 Years From the Jazz Age to Our Age" .  Wow, long title.  I think that is going to be one of my new hobbies collecting art books.  Almost forgot about my rant...lol  Post office you have been in business of delivering the mail for a lot of years now.  You use to have a slogan that nothing can stop the USPS from delivering the mail.  Correction a misspelling can.  Other than that you guys do a great but stop putting them ad papers in my mailbox and complaining when I don't take them out.

Late night, Early Morning

I really got to stop looking at picture at night.  I got so caught up with the idea of capturing the the reflection of Mt. Hood off a body of water with the sunrising in the background.  Well, I checked the weather, sunny no clouds check.  I checked what time the sun would rise 6:18am, checked.  Distance and time to get there an hour and thirty minutes so I will leave at 4:00am, check.  Now the unforeseen issues, the road is closed, okay there's another route that drove me right into someone's back yard.  Okay, plan 2 just find a scenic spot before the sun come up, checked.  Found a river, camera is set up just got to wait.  Too much hase I can't see the sun.  Plan 3 should have been go home but no wait, I will stop somewhere on the gorge.  Still can't see the mountian, hmm.  Okay get what you can to kill some time.  No, mountain and I have to work tonight so just go home but wait again, drive through St. Johns.  I got one picture that I really like there but that one would have never be planned by me.  It was green algee along side a pier but it was an amazing looking green.  Now I can go home.

Women With Direction

I did an event yesterday with Women With Direction and I really enjoyed their event and it was for a good cause.

All caught up

I think I am all caught up with the site.  I should be just adding new content now.  Went out shooting last night and decide to go somewhere new that I didn't scout out, bad move.  Couldn't find anything that really caught my attention.  One pictures maybe but it was a happy accident but nothing to special.

Legs burning

Okay, manage to not get thrown out of the raft 2 years in a row now.  However, I can't seem to wake up full today.  Still need to get out and do something but not right now.   Zzzzzzzzz

Rafting Trip Tomorrow

Not sure if I will take my camera tomorrow because out of 6 hours we will be on the river for most of that time.  Looking forward to doing it again.

Slowly Updating

I am slowly adding more images to the site instead of just the friends and models that I shot with I am expanding my vision so to speak.  Seems that I am a bit more picky now, but I am sure emotion will get in the way with a bunch and they will be added because I have good memories of that day or something.  However, it's still about what I like even if it's also about how I felt.  So, more to the landscape page and less to the photoshoot page but I still have a lot that needs to go to that page.  Well short post this time.

August 5, 2015 First Blog Post

Okay, I thought I would try this blogging thing out for 2 reasons.  One, it will give me an excuse to visit this page more often and two, maybe I will finish adding the pictures.  So, haven't never did this before but how hard can it be.  It's like talking to yourself and I am good at that :-) and yes if it's a good question I will answer back :-)  So, lately I have been going out at least once a week doing long exposure night shoots.  It's been fun hanging out with a friend and fellow photographer trying to find good spots in Portland, Or to shoot.  I don't know if it's a sign that I am getting better or worse because I hate most of the pictures that I have been taking lately.  Last night I had 4 that I like and maybe in a week hopefully I can found 2 more in that set.  I still manage to get one that I really like and if I was a deleter I would trash the others in a heart beat but I have to keep the failures so I can learn something.  Not sure what yet, but I am still trying to figure that out.  Alright that is the end of the blogging for now and until next time if I remember, for those who have a hobby they you enjoy make the best of your time.
