Happy Memorial Day and Welcome Page

I saw some where that when it comes to websites most people don't get pass the first page.  So, it's been very interesting to see that people make it to the welcome page and never click enter to come it...LOL  I know my photography isn't for everyone and it's okay.  However, it doesn't stop me from being amused by this fact.  So, all that served in the Armed Forces I wish you the best on this Memorial day.  Thanks for you service and on honoring those that offered to protected us.  Go Navy, from an old sailor. 

Upcoming Photoshoot

Not doing as much shooting as I should be, but reading and learning things.  Some of the things I already knew but it's giving me a new way to look at things.  Sunday morning had a quick shoot and I think it was the first one I almost missed.  Good thing it was just outside my front door.  I have shoot coming up on Thursday this is another one that will show case a combination of 2 people that I hope to see do big and bigger things in the future one model and the other designer.  

Tagging Friends

I guess it's has been a couple of weeks now, I decide to try and help some friends get more traffic to their pages.  Not that I get that much myself but I tagged some of them and added websites.  Not sure how the data is working it's self out yet.  I really like supporting peoples causes or dreams, so before it was just about Porsha Starr, MzVib and Christy Silver.  One great fashion designer and two stunning models.  Now, I want to also share UP and Over's page, they help to empower our young adults.  So if you know high school age young adults in training look up, Up and Over at www.upandovertour.com and you don't have to live in Portland to benefit from what they do.

Long time now

I haven't been very active in my journal..However, a lot of things have happen since I last posted an update.  Was in a relationship with someone that woke up one day and decided that she didn't like my photography.  I had pictures of her up alone side of the other pictures and she wanted them taking down.  Which to me marked the end of our relationship. Thursday night was my last night at work.  I was offered a separation package that was implied that it would be foolish to refuse so I didn't.  Not real sure what's next but I know I am looking forward to the adventure.  Going to move away from this state that I think is one of the most beautiful in the states but I think it will be a good move for me.  Normally moving on after being comfortable is hard but not this time.  There are somethings I am going to miss out on.  I was suppose to go to Europe in July but that's out now.  I will still make it just not as soon as I wanted too.  Well just wanted to clear this things out of my head and put them in this memory aid so I will have something to come back to in a year of two so I can track my progress.

Fitness Watch

Recently purchased a fitness watch and I can believe how much seeing the data has inspired me to be more active.  Now the trick will be, to see how much it can motivate me to take more pictures.  Plus, I got my Leica DBP repaired and I am using film again.  My challenge with that is using a camera that doesn't have a light meter in it.  I have taking a few but haven't developed anything yet so I will see how things turn out.  Looking forward to using it more and getting better with it.

Featured Photographer of the week Robert Capa

Robert Capa (born Endre Friedmann) was a Hungarian born war photographer and photo journalist.  World War II began, he moved to America and worked freelance for LIFE, Time, and other publications. From 1941 to 1946, he was a war correspondent for LIFE and Collier's, traveling with the US Army and documenting Allied victories in North Africa, the Allied landing at Normandy, and the Allied capture of Leipzig, Nuremberg, and Berlin. After the war, Capa joined Henri Cartier-Bresson, Chim (David Seymour), and George Rodger in founding Magnum, a cooperative photography agency providing pictures to international publications. In 1948-1950, he photographed the turmoil surrounding Israel's declaration of independence. He traveled to Hanoi in 1954 to photograph the French war in Indochina for LIFE; shortly after his arrival, he stepped on a landmine and was killed.

365 day miss already

It's the 10th day into the new year and I have already missed a day of shooting something.  I set up a reminder on my phone so that I would take the picture at the same time every day but got distracted because I was being asked about the notification on my phone and I didn't check it.  Totally my fault so I will be doing better from here on out.  

365 Day Challenge Failure of 2015

Last year I only made it thru half the year, but hopefully I will not have any distractions to accomplishing it this year.  Going to try something different this year.  Last year I would drive around looking for a different place to shoot.  This year it I am going to challenge myself by taking as many photos in the same place as I can before moving on to another place.  Also trying to do it at the same time everyday.  I will see how far that takes me.

New feature photographer Annie Leibovitz

I missed updating the feature last week I was out of town and didn't have my laptop with me.  So, new one is up now.  I was up late  last night so went out to try out new lens this morning.  It was the first time I tried using the stitch software.  It didn't align very well but I think it was because I made an adjustment with the tripod..  So, will have to try again soon.

New Look

I believe this is the third time I change the look of my page this year.  I am the same way about my place.  I have to just move things around or I start to feel crowded so this is the new look that will carry me into the new year.  

Helmut Newton

I missed updating my featured photographer page and since I haven't done a blog entry in a while I thought I was say a little something about the photographer and photo I choiced this week.  Helmut Newton is another one of my favorite photographer but most of his most iconic images are of a mature nature so I didn't pick one of my all time favorites.  Well, if anyone out there is still looking he is a photographer that can inspire you even if the subject matter is not your favorite. 

Radcliffe "Ruddy" Roye - Documentary Photographer

Here I am again with respect for another photographer.  I just finished watching a video of him explaining he work on youtube.  I did a google to view more of his images and I take my hat off to him wonderful photographer.  The following it to his website:

I came across these candles at Costco.  They have LEDs in them and they come with a remote control and they have that beautiful warm glow that works great for pictures.

My Weekend

Quick idea of how my weekend is being spent.  Started a series of 200 photography videos on youtube and it's 5:00am and I am on video 95 now.  My weekend start Sunday morning, and I have manage to do other things.  I completely cleaned up downstairs plus cleaned the carpet and I am using a lot of water this time, doing a deep clean.   Today, I have been invited by a FaceBook friend to take pictures at the Chinese Garden as her guest after closing hours and I am so looking forward to it.  We also will be meeting for the first time on top of that.  The great thing about that is since I am a junkie for art history and I admire that fact that artist of the past, knew and liked each other and even hung out with one another.  They respected each other which doesn't seem to be the case with artist now.  I don't consider myself as a artist I just can't get my mind around that one, however, I do like talking shop and always interested in how we see things so differently.  Tuesdays have been working out as my day of rest so I will see if this Tuesday will work out to be another day of rest or will I find myself somewhere not planned. 

Khalik Allah

Watching a few YouTube videos this morning and came across Khalik Allah a street photographer in New York.  Wow, he is in his 20s and has some amazing images.  Don't take my word for but go and see for yourself.

Rant or jealousy

Okay, I know it's just me because I haven't really seen anyone talking about it.  So, what happen to the photographers that started off saying gear doesn't matter, it's knowing how to get the most out of it, and now, you really need this certain item to make your photography stand out.  So, it got me wondering if I would sell out my principal for a free camera gear.  I think I just might but I also hope that I would stick to a brand that works for me.  My first digital DSLR was a Sony and I started working with another photographer who thought it would be better if we used the same brand so I switched to Canon.  I sold my Sony and upgraded my Canon and then I missed having my Sony as my walk-around so I went out and got another one.  So, here I am again a two brand type of guy.  I love both brands for different reasons but I think it would really take something I thought I couldn't live without to make me start all over building up a series of lenses. 

Special Day

Haven't really added anything to the blog lately so I thought I would share a story about one of my family members turning 95 today.  Well some what about her, I got her a gift for her birthday it was a picture of her printed on glass from fractureme.com.  This is the second one I have had done and the second one given away.  I really need the next one to be mines because they are beautiful prints. I wish I could have been at her party to help her celebrate her day but, I know she was surrounded by family that really love her and I heard she was reciting poetry and have the best time so that makes up for me not being there.
